Jim Doherty
Bringing Integrity and Action to Oregon's House District 57

Eastern Oregon deserves a representative who puts people over politics. For too long, career politicians in Salem have ignored our water crisis, enriched themselves through conflicts of interest, and left rural communities behind. Jim Doherty is running to change that: bringing clean water, clean government, and real action to Oregon House District 57.
01
Clean Water
No child should drink poisoned water. With 40% of Morrow County wells exceeding safe nitrate levels, families have suffered for over 30 years while Salem did nothing. Jim declared Oregon's first groundwater emergency as County Commissioner and he'll finish what he started in the legislature.
02
Clean Government
End the Corruption. Jim stood up to special interests and was recalled for it. He'll fight for term limits, complete financial transparency, and an end to career politicians using public office for private profit.
03
Real Representation for Eastern Oregon
Salem has ignored us long enough. Jim will fight for local control, support our agricultural economy, protect property rights, and ensure Eastern Oregon's voice is finally heard. We need a fighter who understands rural life, not another insider.
04
Agriculture & Rural Economy
As a fourth-generation rancher, Jim understands agriculture is our backbone. He'll protect water rights, cut red tape, and defend family farms while balancing conservation with economic vitality.
05
Affordable Childcare
Strong communities need strong families raising the next generation. Jim will cut regulations for childcare providers, support tax credits for businesses, and reduce costs so parents can afford to have and raise children in Rural Oregon.
06
Public Safety
Jim fully supports law enforcement and opposes Portland-style defunding. He'll fight for adequate funding, enhanced fentanyl penalties, and policies that keep our rural communities safe.
07
Education & Parental Rights
Parents are the primary educators of their children. Jim will fight for transparency, parental input on curriculum, back-to-basics academics, and expanded trade and vocational education.
08
Fiscal Responsibility
Oregon families balance their budgets—Salem should too. Jim will vote against spending that exceeds revenue, support zero-based budgeting, and oppose new taxes on working families.

Jim Doherty is a fourth-generation Eastern Oregonian, rancher, and small business owner who has devoted his life to serving his community. As Morrow County Commissioner, Jim focused on practical solutions: responsible budgets, public safety, and economic development. But his defining moment came in 2022 when he did something unprecedented: he declared a groundwater emergency. With 40% of Morrow County wells exceeding safe nitrate levels, Jim took action when no one else would. He triggered state response, forced testing for over 1,700 households, and brought national attention to a crisis Salem had ignored for decades. Special interests recalled him for standing up to polluters, but Jim never regretted putting families first.
Now Jim is running for State Representative to continue that fight. He believes every family deserves safe drinking water, that public servants should serve the public instead of themselves, and that Eastern Oregon deserves real representation in Salem. Jim will champion clean water, ethics reform, support for agriculture, affordable childcare, and strong public safety. He's not a career politician—he's a problem solver with deep community roots, proven courage, and the integrity to do what's right even when it costs him. That's the leadership Eastern Oregon needs.
